Building and raising a family of your own can be one of life’s most enlivening, enriching, and fulfilling experiences.
It can also be one of life’s hardest and most maddening experiences.
Most of us try to do better than our parents did before us.
But also, on never-ending, incredibly hard days we might also find ourselves yelling at the people we love most in the world, watching our goodwill with our partner and kids erode, hearing ourselves sound exactly like our own parents - the people we were trying to not be like.
Between work, chores, and adulting, we try the best we can but wake up one day to realize we’ve co-created a household where our teenagers don’t seem to be thriving nor are they willing to talk to us about the struggles they’re going through.
And we wonder what we did wrong…
And, differently but also important in our own recovery and healing journeys, as adults we may want to reconcile and work through painful dynamics with siblings and parents, dynamics which were created and unattended to because of the traumatic home you all grew up in.
Whatever the reason, seeking out family counseling can be a wonderful complement to your work in individual therapy if you need and want ancillary support to repair and improve relationships with the people you call family, both the family you create and the family you were born into.
The quality of our lives is dependent on the quality of our relationships and so seeking out family counseling services to support your own recovery and growth is a wise, and effective choice.
We understand that taking the first step towards therapy can feel overwhelming. We’re here to make this decision easier for you.
Starting therapy can bring up mixed feelings—part of you might be eager, while another part hesitates to confront deeply buried emotions. You might doubt whether therapy can help, especially if you’ve struggled for a long time or had disappointing experiences with untrained therapists or life coaches. At Evergreen Counseling, our trauma-trained therapists are deeply committed to providing expert care.
