So, your therapist wants to do Telehealth with you…

If you’ve never done telehealth before, it’s normal and natural to have questions about the process. Today’s post answers some of the most common questions!

In these times of social distancing, our therapy center and all of our therapists have transitioned to telehealth – online video sessions – to serve our clients and to comply with city and state health mandates.

For some, the move to telehealth feels normal, natural, and something they’ve done many times before and prefer!

For others, the move to telehealth may bring up resistance, questions about how effective therapy can actually feel if done over video, and concerns about the privacy of such a move.

Today’s blog post addresses a few of these concerns and our hope is to help you feel as comfortable as possible with telehealth.

We are dedicated to resolving issues and blocks that may get in the way of living the life that you imagined.

If you live in California or Florida, schedule a complimentary consultation.

So, your therapist wants to do Telehealth with you…

1) What is telehealth? Telehealth is a confidential and secure video conferencing method that therapists can use to meet with their clients to have their therapy sessions online when times and circumstances prevent you two from meeting in person.

2) How do I get set up for telehealth? Your therapist uses a HIPAA-compliant (meaning medically-secure) platform that they use to video conference you. You’ll be sent a link to your video conference 24 hours before your session. All you need is a laptop or phone with a camera and a microphone. No need to download any special software!

3) The benefits of telehealth: You can do it from the comfort and security of your own home; you can regularly meet with your therapist and receive the support you need; you don’t have to lose any traction on your therapy goals; you can do it in your pajamas, the list of benefits goes on and on.

4) If you don’t feel comfortable with telehealth… Just try one session with your therapist. You two can work together to troubleshoot anything that’s making you feel less comfortable. In these trying times as we follow public health guidelines, giving teletherapy a chance benefits your mental health and the health and well being of those around you. And truly, if you have a good bond with your therapist, telehealth will feel just fine.
