Carmelle Ellison, LCSW
Meet Carmelle: Hello! However you found me, I’m glad that you did and I’m honored that you would consider working with me. As one of the Therapists here at Evergreen Counseling, I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I hold an undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University, and a graduate degree from Barry University. As a woman of color, I’m a fierce advocate for social justice and equality. So, in my work with many clients of diverse backgrounds, I honor their experiences of living in a world where power, privilege, and oppression affects us all.
My specialties: I specialize in working with women and men dealing with an overwhelm of:
- Anxiety (high achieving; struggle with perfectionism; and work/life balance)
- Life Transitions
- Relationship Challenges (including romantic, familial, and friendships)
I also hold particular interest in working with adolescents, and individuals who have suffered from complex trauma, such as sexual abuse, emotional wounds from relationships with parents, and exposure to loss of a loved one.
What drew me to this work: For as long as I can remember, I’ve often encountered strangers who have unexpectedly felt open to sharing their stories with me (long before I became a Therapist). Whatever compelled them to do so, I’ve always been inclined to carefully listen, reflectively respond, and never take for granted how impactful presence can be. From my own adverse beginnings, I personally know what it means to take time to heal from life’s challenges. I value the resiliency of the human spirit when exposed to suffering. We may not get to control life circumstances, but we also don’t have to be devalued by them. So, in work with clients, I strive to help them get to a place that they were capable of all along…growth and wholeness.
My style: Warmly engaging, attentive, and direct.
Services I offer: In-person individual adolescent therapy, individual adult therapy, and family therapy as well as online video counseling for residents of California.
